This is one of the great parish churches of England. Its Angel Roof, among the finest in the land, numbers over two hundred angel carvings amid the double hammerbeam structure. Close inspection reveals other figures: jesters, dragons, eagles and comic or rude faces. These carvings date from about 1460.

The carved ends of the pews are mainly from about 1480. They depict real and fantastic animals.
ediaeval emains
The priests door in the chancel, which was built in 1200 AD, is the oldest part of the church. The impressive south porch was begun in 1439. Puritans, at the time of the Civil War, destroyed much of the mediaeval stained glass in the churchs windows, but in the memorial window on the north side of the chancel some fragments remain, showing a leaping hind and a peasant riding a pig.
