What the WPC does

The Parish Council has a broad range of responsibilities some of which can be summarised below:

  • Sport and Recreational Facilities (in conjunction with other village organisations)
  • Playgrounds & Play Equipment (in conjunction with other village organisations)
  • Street lighting
  • Street cleansing
  • Litter bins and dog bins
  • Footpaths and rights of way
  • Allotments
  • Statutory consultations on planning issues, working to influence Planning Authority decisions, based on Councillors local knowledge
  • Working on a Neighbourhood Plan which will give the community the opportunity to develop a shared vision for its neighbourhood

A Parish Council is the first tier of local government. There are many misapprehensions about the Parish Council’s responsibilities and powers. Whilst the Parish Council can pass on residents concerns to the relevant bodies, it is not responsible for highways, traffic, planning decisions and enforcement, building regulations, social care, refuse collection and licensing. Please refer to the Home page and the Information Section you will find links to the bodies responsible for these matters and their complaints procedures.
